Maybe some concrete ideas for tasks as well related to them? Best, Angelika From Mona, whose children attend a Montessori school: Sensory Learning The best way to help develop young senses is not by any formal training but simply by enabling children to learn to see, hear, touch, taste, and smell everything they experience. Sorting Objects This is a wonderful activity that stimulates a child's sight as well as other senses. Materials: Gather buttons varying in color, size, and shape. You can also buy packets of buttons. Be careful of very small objects because a young child can swallow them or they can end up in a nostril or ear. You will also need a large bowl and some smaller bowls. Description: Mix the buttons together in a large bowl and have children select one button and place it in a smaller bowl, then find each of the other buttons that is the same in size, shape, or color. Sand Writing This sand letter method is one of the first steps to sensory learning of the alphabet. Materials: Large plain trays and sand Description: Sprinkle a thin layer of sand on them and allow children to draw letters with their fingers in the sand. Mystery Bag This is a favorite activity for all children regardless of age. Materials: You can sew or buy a dark cloth bag and fill it with distinctive objects varying in size, shape, and textures (toy car, spoon, walnut, shell, rock, pen, feather, sheep wool, different geometric shapes) Description: Using the sense of touch to feel things, let children put their hands into the bag while their eyes are closed and try to identify what they are touching. Fabric Matching This is a great activity to train a child's sense of touch. Materials: Get a basket or plastic container and fill it with squares of different kinds of fabrics (silk, wool, cotton, tweed, suede) Prepare matching pairs of each type of fabric and place them in the basket. Description: With eyes closed or blindfolded, ask children to find the pairs of fabric that feel the same and lay them together. When they open their eyes, they can check their work by looking at the squares. Dried Beans As the hearing develops, children can differentiate sounds. Material: Dried large lima beans, heavy glass bowl, a plastic bowl, metal bowl and a laddle. Description: Let children scoop some beans from the large heavy bowl into the other bowls with a laddle or their hands and let them hear interesting sounds. Playing with Bells Materials: Gather metal cans varying in size, shape, and weight. You will also need a wooden spoon, metal spoon, and a plastic spoon. Description: Let children ring the the can bells with the various spoons and hear the difference in sounds. Sound Cans Developing the ability to discriminate between sounds is a fun activity. Materials: You will need at least 10 closed lid containers, they don't need to be the same size or shape but they do need to be opaque so you cannot see what's inside. You can color the cans/jars/containers or line the inside of them. Fill pairs of jars with exactly the same content that will make an interesting sound when rattled(beans, rice, sand, rocks, buttons, coins) Description: Children try to match the cylinders by their sounds. Practical Learning Provide plenty of opportunities for children to strengthen their small motor skills by cutting with a scissor. Cutting on Lines Materials: You will need a few safety scissors and paper with pre-drawn lines on them Description: Draw many types of lines on paper and copy them on the copy machine. Put them out at a table that has various small motor activities and the children will have the choice of going to that center. Snip Soup Materials: Several colors of construction paper cut into strips, small bowls and scissors. Description: Have the children cut the paper, one color at a time, into the bowl. They can pretend that they are cutting vegetables for soup. This activity can also be used to assess children's knowledge of colors. From Marialala: We could also help the children develop their personality like how to enhance their personality to lessen their shyness,by giving them more activities like, Art Competitions once a week or once every month by letting them draw their future dreams, explain what is the meaning of their drawings (since Sabina has an art class in her schedule) and in result give them prizes like drawing books and crayons, activity book with pencils-first prize we can give them the chance to lead their brothers and sisters(to be an assistant in an art lesson can make them feel proud that their responsible-we can also give them little grocies for kids like cookies and milk for their snacks each contestant for complimentary prizes to give them interest in joining the competition),second prize we can give them the prizes i said like coloring and activity books..and also,we can conduct the women a basic cooking lessons,Cooking Competitions by giving them 3 recipe (nutritous recipe like candy bar made in coconut, pudding cake made in sweet potato, banana cake, any food that is nutritous and it is available in their area and which they can sell it if they want to the tourist or people),in return they can make money...we divide them into 3 groups and give them prizes that category first, second and third prizes, for the first prize -we can give them prizes like single stove or little groceries(instant noodles, canned goods and things like vinegar, soy sauce, laundry bar, shampoo),second prizes-an cooking tools and groceries, third prizes-cooking tools and or groceries. For this affair here in our place we can only budget all these prizes $20 or 1t pesos in philippine money..Hope youll try what i shared,it is fun and memorable since i already did these things to my church before when i was in my youth i used to be a volunteer in my church as children ministry leader aside from prayers and song and dance interpretations the children and youth relly missed these kind of activity... Dear all,
Mona and Marialala have kindly contributed to the discussion of learning methods for the children :) Find their suggestions below: Maybe you also have some ideas? Maybe some concrete ideas for tasks as well related to them?
Best, Angelika

From Mona, whose children attend a Montessori school:
Sensory Learning
The best way to help develop young senses is not by any formal training but simply by enabling children to learn to see, hear, touch, taste, and smell everything they experience.
Sorting Objects
This is a wonderful activity that stimulates a child's sight as well as other senses.
Sand Writing
This sand letter method is one of the first steps to sensory learning of the alphabet.
Materials: Large plain trays and sand
Description: Sprinkle a thin layer of sand on them and allow children to draw letters with their fingers in the sand.
Mystery Bag
This is a favorite activity for all children regardless of age.
Materials: You can sew or buy a dark cloth bag and fill it with distinctive objects varying in size, shape, and textures (toy car, spoon, walnut, shell, rock, pen, feather, sheep wool, different geometric shapes)
Description: Using the sense of touch to feel things, let children put their hands into the bag while their eyes are closed and try to identify what they are touching.
Fabric Matching
This is a great activity to train a child's sense of touch.
Dried Beans
As the hearing develops, children can differentiate sounds.
Material: Dried large lima beans, heavy glass bowl, a plastic bowl, metal bowl and a laddle.
Description: Let children scoop some beans from the large heavy bowl into the other bowls with a laddle or their hands and let them hear interesting sounds.
Playing with Bells
Materials: Gather metal cans varying in size, shape, and weight. You will also need a wooden spoon, metal spoon, and a plastic spoon.
Description: Let children ring the the can bells with the various spoons and hear the difference in sounds.

Sound Cans
Developing the ability to discriminate between sounds is a fun activity.
Materials: You will need at least 10 closed lid containers, they don't need to be the same size or shape but they do need to be opaque so you cannot see what's inside. You can color the cans/jars/containers or line the inside of them. Fill pairs of jars with exactly the same content that will make an interesting sound when rattled(beans, rice, sand, rocks, buttons, coins)
