Support the village partnership Gamauli-Yoshinkhel

Thanks everybody for your help!!!
-----------------
Jennifer, our neighbour and facilitator of Gamauli village, has had the brilliant idea to benefit both villages at the same time by making a partnership based on a concrete need:
It's getting cold now and some of the children in Gamauli village will not be able to attend school over winter as there is no heating and they have no warm clothes. The women of Yoshinkhel make woolen clothes which could help the kids get over winter! Of course we also want to women to get paid for the work they are doing, so that they can benefit at the same time.
What are your ideas? Do you know where we could get a short-term grant for such action or would you simply like to contribute yourself, buying a set of clothes for a needy child in Gamauli, at the same time helping the women of Nabuur make a living?

Dear all,
We'd really like to make this idea work! Do you have any idea how we could get started? Some volunteers in Gamauli already said they would be interested in buying a set of clothes for a child in need! Anybody here who would like to do the same? I already asked Sabina to think of a reasonable price for such a set, so that the costs are fully covered and the women still make a profit.
Looking forward to your ideas,
Angelika
I wonder if this might do well posted to Give Meaning? If we can get a price for a full set of items, perhaps we could post the proposed parternship there and people could choose to donate toward a set for a number of students, or a single student? I'm not sure exactly how they set up options for donation there, but since this effort would benefit both villages, it may actually do very well there. I also think we should be able to easily get the sponsors needed to post the project there. What do you guys think?
The children in Gamauli really need these items and if we can help a child and at the same time help one of the women from Yoshinkel, what a double benefit.
We are really excited about this, but we need your help to make it work. We thank you for considering it.
Warm Regards-
Jennifer
Min and Sabina have made contact and are scheduled to meet tomorrow to discuss specific information about our proposed partnership. We will update again as soon as we know more.
Kind regards-
Jennifer
What a great idea!
Is there some way that this could be done as a bartering system? Is there something that the people of Gamauli can do of equal value as the clothes that is needed by the women of Yoshinkhel? What if it is an exchange of work? I ask because if there is no outside source of funds, the children still need clothes. There is a solution here - I don't know what - but there has to be a way that these two communities can both benefit and doesn't necessarily require outside funding, because once/if that funding isn't there then the partnership may otherwise stop. Is there skills or items that the people of Gamauli have that is needed in Yoshinkhel? Are the parents in Gamauli maybe willing to pay a small fee for the clothes? While they may not be able to afford the entire cost of a new set of clothes, maybe there is some arrangement that can be made for a smaller fee? Would the parents be willing to pay a reduced rate for clothing? If clothes are a major need, there may be a way to work out some smaller fee that parents would be willing to pay.
Just some thoughts.
Barb
Dear Barb, Dear Jennifer,
That's an interesting idea, to have some sort of exchange...let's see what Sabina and Min come up with. I suppose at least for the wool we'll have to find some funding.
I suppose we could try givemeaning. Do you have any experience with it? Who would need to set up the thing? Us? Sabina? I have received calls from Nabuur before for signing for it, so I also suppose it's no problem to get the signatures. I hope that after tomorrow's meeting Sabina will let us know the set price and then we can go full steam ahead!
Best, Angelika
Dear all,
Sabina just sent the set price, depending on type of wool. So if I count correctly that should be appx. 4,7 Euro of 6 USD per set with normal wool (I don't know exactly what is the difference. Min, are you fine with the normal wool?), plus 7.2 Euro/9.3 USD for transportation to be paid once. I'd take on the transportation costs and ask around at my friends too who would like to support Yoshinkhel and Gamauli. I'm pretty sure we should be able to get it together. Maybe also with givemeaning.com. Can I ask again: anybody have experience with this?
But I'm afraid for Min's trip they won't all be ready, as Sabina writes they need about 25 days...Min, does it make sense to either take part of the products, or is it possible to delay your trip for a little bit?
Best, Angelika

Dear Jennifer, Barb and Angelika
It is really good idea which you porposed here. I am thinkig like these things and trying to sustian the community. But it is not justice to compare with Yosinkhel and the Gamauli and the porject in Gamauli and Yosinkhel. Yosinkhel is a previllaged community with in the capital city in Kathmandu and running the business project. But Gamauli is about 850 KM far from the capital city in the remote area adn a underprivellaged community. we are just working for educaiton for these needy children and for their future. Yes parent can share some of the cost but our first priority is building and parent are preparing for that. Since we are trying to collect some money at local level.
Here I do not like to rush these parent but I would like to justice by providing certain students who are really needy.
I am planning to visit Gamauli on 18 november. If I became to carry these things with me then it will be another problem to deliver on the spot.
Even I am working hard for Gamauli, but not able to show big change because it is really remote.
Pls think about this reality.
Here I frequently remember one event, Two years ago, Mr. Andew Blanke came to Nepal with plan of Gamauli visit. But he became unable because he suffered by high altitude during his trecking. then he planned to visit Yosinkhel.
Pls think about this, how the people in remote victim normally?
Sincerely your's
Min/LR

This evening, I've posted information about our proposed project and partnership to Givemeaning.com. In order for the project to "go live" and fundraising to begin, we need to first secure 100 votes. I am asking that all of our volunteers here please visit the Givemeaning.com site and cast your vote. Remember, this will help not only the students in Gamauli, but also the women of Yoshinkel and help us raise the necessary funds.
Click here to go to the project:
http://www.givemeaning.com/proposal/gamauli
Please get your friends to vote as well! Voting closes December 8th. The sooner we can get to 100 votes the better.
45 more votes are needed as of this writing! Please keep your votes coming so that we can move forward with fundraising.
Thank you to all who have voted already!
Jennifer
Hi everyone-
I am thrilled to report that in just about a day and a half we were able to achieve all 100 of the required votes for our proposed partnership to move forward with fundraising on the Give Meaning site. I am waiting to hear from the Give Meaning staff about what needs to be done next to begin the process.
Thank you so much to all who took the time to vote and get us here so quickly.
I will post more information as soon as I receive it.
With sincere thanks-
Jennifer
Dear all,
I heartly thank all who voted on givemeaning for our project.
Hope we will soon success in fundraise also.
Thanks again.
Sabina
A big thanks also from my side - amazing, people!
Hi all-
Just a quick update on where things stand with the fundraising effort. Once we achieved 100 votes, the Give Meaning staff sent me a 5 page project query to complete. I completed most of it, and sent it on to Angelika to get some additional information on the Yoshinkhel village to include. I also needed more information from Sabina, which she sent me today. I went ahead and completed the rest and submitted the project query this evening. So now we're waiting to hear back from the Give Meaning staff about next steps in the process. Hopefully soon we can start the fundraising. Last I checked, there were 154 votes of support cast for our project! I hope just as many are willing to help us achieve our fundraising goal. We'll achieve it in no time at all if everyone gives just a little bit!
Warm Regards-
Jennifer
Hi all-
I spoke with the guys at GiveMeaning tonight and our proposal is now a project and can begin fundraising. I posted the following as a news story in the Gamauli village:
The Gamauli/Yoshinkhel Partnership Project is now posted and ready to accept donations at
http://www.givemeaning.com/project/gamauli.
We would like to thank everyone that helped us reach our goal of 100 votes, and surpass it by 54 more. Now comes the real work! We are attempting to raise $800 USD in order to purchase wool for the women of Yoshinkhel to create 110 winter hats, 110 winter gloves, 110 sweaters, and 110 mufflers for the students at Krishna Primary School. Min will be traveling to the school very soon and would like to deliver as much as possible on his upcoming visit. For as little as 5 Euro /$6.74 USD you can help us get 1 set of these items for a student at the school. This will also allow the women in Yoshinkhel to make a profit from their work.
Please consider making a donation today-you are helping not one, but two projects by doing so, and making a very big impact on the lives of the students and women of the Yoshinkhel village.
We appreciate your kind consideration and generousity!
Min and Jennifer-Gamauli Village
Sabina and Angelika-Yoshinkhel Village
In less than 24 hours we've achieved 40% of our fundraising goal! So far so good!
Just wanted to share the good news!
Jennifer
