Training on and Tools for Small Business Skills needed!

The women of Yoshinkhel are trying to build up a professional small business from their knitting skills...but they lack the necessary business skills and tools for setting up a business!
Can you help them by developing an online training or tools/files/software specific to their needs? Or would you even be willing to come to Yoshinkhel as volunteer? Or do you have experience you would like to share?
Though Sabina is a student of management and accounting, she knows the theory but still needs a practical handling system to work the small business effectively and efficiently.

hi sabina please send me youre mail i d so i can add you in yahoo then we can discuss.ok bye

HI Sabina,
I've uploaded the first draft of the financial posting scheme and chart of accounts. It might be a good idea to give me some feedback on this first draft, and let me know if this is going in the right direction for you. I can then try to make it more suitable for your business. Please note that there are several sheets in this Excel-file. My suggestion would be that we try to make everything work on paper first (that is, both the posting scheme and the full COA) before we start selecting and implementing a software package.
Do not hesitate to contact me directly (wilfredsleeman@yahoo.com).
Thanks,
Wilfred.
Tks Wilfred for your hard work.
Reg.COA, in my opinion in direct manufacturing cost it should be only material, labour and transportation cost (in carriage) and remaining item which are shown in direct cost should be in indirect manufacturing cost if i'm right.
additional materials : 1. packing material (plastics)
2. Lining warm cloth (voering)
needles : not necessary to include
Hoping to see updates.
tks
sabina
Dear all
I saw this task and have a financial and business background.
I suggest the following. Buy a good and clear book on how to manage a small business. This is much more efficient than having the neighbours create a new text book. I have looked on the internet and found a book, which in my eyes will cover a lot of the issues identified. Managing a Small Business Made Easy
Martin Davis. You can take a look at the index with this link http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/1932531548/ref=sib_dp_pt#reader-link
I am not sure English is a problem. If not I am willing to purchase the book and have it sent to the ladies. Then after reading it, and trying to apply the knowledge they should come with directed questions to the neighbours for help. Sabina has the right knowledge and background to coordinate and filter these requests. I think following this pragmatic approach (which is not ideal) will allow you to start.
If there are really important issues on which you are unsure at the moment that will make or kill your business, you can put them to us and we can provide advise. But a lot of the process stuff is covered by the book.
Sabina, it is your call. Let me know if you want me to buy the book. If so, please supply me with an name and address to have it sent to.

Dear Toin,
Thanks for joining us! It is a great idea to start with a basic book - should have occurred to us before ;) I'm sure that Sabina will be very happy to receive it!
At the same time, I think the ladies still need practical tools/software adapted to their needs which our neighbours and Sabina can work on in parallel to reading the book and finding targeted questions to put before the neighbours. I think the two processes will feed back into each other.
Kind regards, Angelika

Thanks for your comments. I will wait for Sabina's conclusion and info.
Before being able to use software the ladies will have to define a number of key structures that define master data (like items, customers, suppliers). If somebody of the team suggests a package we need this person to actually have experience setting it up and using it, else I am worried that you can do this from a distance using e-mails. I am not an software expert

Hello people,
I have made a training with which you can calculate the costpice of a product. It is for people who know how to read, write and calculate, but have never had any training on calculating a the costprice of a product. It can be given in very simple surroundings: the sums are set up in such a way that they can be easily made without calculators around.
The sums are made in Kenyian Shillings (KES), but can be rewritten to the local currency. It covers the basics of the basics and has not been tested in the field yet. I hope one day to make more advanced courses on the subject and/or change the course to the feedback I will get from the field. But before I move on doing so, I'd like this training to be given in the field. Once I have some feedback, I hope I'll have a better understanding on what works and what does not, where to improve, etc.
So if you decide to use it in the field, please give me feedback on how things went.
Kind regards,
Lieuwe

The book on how to manage a small business should be on your way. I have ordered it on line on NBC India.com as Amazon did not ship to Nepal.
Can you please confirm when you have received the book. Then we can best work with focussed questions that you run into (like setting up a cost price as already covered by Liewe

Hi Sabina,
Attached is an updated version of the posting scheme and COA. I've included postings 7, 8, and 9 in the scheme, can you please check if this is how we can account for manufacturing overhead (cloth, plastic, needles)? I also updated the COA with the new accounts for manufacturing overhead. I will start looking for webbased software that we can both access, so we can work together on setting up the accounts. Maybe, it's a good idea to set-up a dummy-company first in which we can play around and see if our COA is workable?
To everyone else: please post any ideas where we can find free webbased accounting software that supports multiple users and allows for some customization of accounts.
Thanks so much,
Wilfred.
