Dear Ken,
Thank you for all the DVDs. Thank you for all the info. I am applying it in my own vegetable patch. It is working.
Got half a pocket of potatoes off a square metre. So would imagine about 10 pounds per square yard. This off previously dead low carbon soil. Sure next crop will be better. Got yams coming up on same spot already. Do you have any info on companion planting? Want to plant herbs and spices. I will send photo’s.
Your advise is so simple. People do not believe me when I tell them. I am so excited about growing things now. This coming from a commercial plum farmer.
May you be blessed this holy season a thousand times more than you blessed me with you help.

Hi Pastor Fred,
based on Ken's email...is the land that you have large neough for some local farming, and what is the quality of the soil like on this land?
Carolyn
Hey ken ,Carolyn DV
Thanks for the good program of forming this is one way of develop the Land and i agree with you even if the Land is small we can grow as Uganda being that we depend on agriculture we need only to be trained and more advices plus giving out the tools to use, like hoe, pangs, gumboot and etc if possible.
Let me hear from you soon
God bless.
Pastor Fred.
Hello Pastor Fred,
I hope all is well. Farming indeed sounds like a good idea as it is true that literally every household depends on it one way or another. I think before training and tools can be made available the question that Carolyn poses does need to be addressed. What is the size of the land, what is the quality of the soil, maybe even the average rainfall in the area and the existence of irrigation facilites. These help determine how much equipment needs to be bought and specifically what type, if training is to be provided then it will be along the lines of what can be grown successfully on the land etc. It might also be worth looking into how many people are interested in commiting to the idea in the long term, through good times and bad. There is evidence that most self sustainance projects 'imposed' by NGOs on local communities have a high failure rate becasue people do not always see the benefits of such. It therefore becomes important to know if people are interested in a project and if not, try and sell the idea before take off otherwise you are faced with more wasted resources. I hope I'm making sense :)
Have a good day.
Kind Regards,
Nonhlanhla

I agree with what everyone said about farming, that research is need to be done before deciding on whether farming for generating revenue is possible. But I think that it's still a good idea to do some same tutorials on farming or gardening to teach the children how to grow food as I think they would find it useful at a later stage of their lives.
Ray
The size of the plot of land is not important. Using it to grow and sell vegetables is what is important. It has been months and I see no activity toward that goal. I am willing to help the students with organic, 0-till farming in permanent beds using drip irrigation during the dry season. They do not need to buy anything from anybody except seed. They grow their own fertilizer. What DVDs have been received? Where are they? I can send others. You do not need any tools except a machette/cutlass or whatever you call it. Farmers in Honduras farm 10 acres of maize and beans with a machette.
When you are ready to farm, let me know.
Your most welcome Ken,
in fact that's very good advice and help we are more than willing to be helped but even funds of buying seeds are problems how can we be helped and i have not yet received any DVDS please send them to me if possible.

I make no records of mailing dvds. If they do not arrive within 3-4 weeks of when I told you I had mailed them, let me know and I will mail some more.
The farmers can use organic, no-till with the seeds they have. When they have done that, I will consider mailing some seed for new crops. I only help people who help themselves and demonstrate that.
I think it is fantastic that with no extra extravagant input, the people can do something for themselves!!! Thank you Ken for extending your help to include the seeds as well. There is nothing wrong with starting small to make something big, and whenever possible, by all means, let's go that route.
I for one will be happy to hear about the progress that will come out of this once it is in motion :)
Good day to everyone.

Hi,
It seems that all posts in this thread are based on the presumption that this land is for agricultural use.
Depending on where the land is located, the total area of the land, the activities in the neighbouring plots, and the local laws, the land could also be used for activities other than agriculture, where higher incomes could be generated.
A brief description of all aspects of this land might enable the neighbours to examine and suggest options other than agriculture.
Vijai
Oh yes Vijai look well we have described everything about the Land we have up
God bless
