Three Ways You Can Help Build The Future of NABUUR

NABUUR exists so people like you can make a real difference for communities worldwide. With your contributions, you have improved the lives of countless others. You have proven it works. Now, your talents and time are needed to take the next step: make NABUUR itself self-supporting and driven by a global community of volunteers.

In the last year alone, the numbers of volunteers and villages have doubled. Together, we learned how to connect, share and work together via the internet, without bureaucratic controlling bodies. NABUUR is following this path itself: already, many of you have taken over work that previously required office staff. And a bold next step is ahead!

From January on, NABUUR will be volunteer-run: no more office staff. The NABUUR platform will remain online, and limited central support will still be available, but how it will develop will be up to the community to decide.

The future of NABUUR is open. Here are three ways you can help to shape it.

NABUURCamp

The NABUUR community will need occasional face-to-face meet-ups to work on bigger issues (such as the website, or the way we organise ourselves). The meet-ups in Uganda and elsewhere have proven to be very effective in helping people connect and work together on local solutions.

A first NABUURCamp will be organised in early February, to find these new way of working together on the platform. Bring your skills and talents, especially if you organised such an event yourself, or if you're a web designer or (Drupal) programmer!

NABUUR's Online Teams

There are already teams forming
- to develop NABUUR resources for local communities,
- to shape the way NABUUR uses other platforms like Facebook and Twitter to increase our impact
- to deal with certain topics occurring in multiple villages

We want to build a team of designers and programmers to further develop the NABUUR platform, the basis for all other teams and volunteers. That will be the main focus of the first NABUURCamp.

Another team will be looking at new ways to partner with institutions and companies to increase the impact of NABUUR, or allow us to organise specific NABUURCamps to deal with specific opportunities. We are already exploring a few options here.

NABUUR Community Calls

We'll have bi-weekly “community calls” where you can join the discussions on next steps to be taken, and offer your time, talents, and insights.

Upon reading this message, you may have questions and concerns, or you may also be wondering how you can contribute to this new vision. That's why we'll have two open calls in which the current team can talk in more detail about this pretty radical change.
