A heart felt greetings from members of hands in-service and welcome to Odoot Village Kaberamaido.
We have a number of self help projects like Paper beads which we use in making bags, Bangles, Necklaces, ear rings etc, African paintings, signposts, and general Art work to reduce unemployment problem, poverty, illiteracy, empowering vulnerable people and entire communities to defend their inalienable human rights, improving on the spiritual lives of vulnerable persons. we provide humanitarian assistance to the poor and needy through the funds raised from these projects. We have thousands of necklaces, paper bags, Bangles, ear rings, paintings that are ready for sale but we do not have people to buy them. Our appeal goes to every one who would like to see an orphan going to school, feeding and dressing up. A widow feeding and dressing up to buy from the numerous products we have. These products in the local market are so cheap that it cannot sustain the lives of these vulnerable people. Buy a product and save a life!
Hands in service has felt the need of setting up a child home that will be raising up children who lost their parents as a result of the insurgency in the North and North Eastern Uganda & adult learning centre that will offer technical skills like carpentry and joinery, brick laying and concrete practice, tailoring, painting and decoration for income generation of the of the youth and women..
Kaberamaido is one of the backward communities of eastern Uganda. 65 families from Soroti Town (610 people) live in this underdeveloped community. The per capital income is so low that it is hard for families to meet their daily requirements. Due to that cause, many children have no chance to go to school to study. At the same time, there is a lack of awareness amongst parents of the benefits of formal education. Most children are not able to attend classes because they do not have enough money to buy the required books, school uniforms and other stationery. Majority of the children drop out of school at an early age, marry and join their parents in peasant/subsistence agriculture. As a result, children lack proper education and are suffering from various diseases; bad habits such as alcoholism and gambling are the major activities.

Emergency/Urgent Need:
There is a great need of food in the village now; the village was striked by a long drought which destroyed crops in the field which left people helpless ie without food in the store not even in the gardens since they were all destroyed by sun shine. Since the only source of income is agriculture which is even practiced on a very small scale due to lack of capital and technical Know how.
How ever in the last three - four weeks we have started realizing some rain and people are trying to plant a few crops but of course the local breeds that take several months to mature and even yield poorly especially when climatic conditions are unfavorable.
There fore our urgent request to our neighbours around the world includes;
1. Relief food.
2. Training members of the community on modern methods of agriculture, providing improved seed and breeds on animals .The community has the potential already that only needs to be improved ,
3. Re a forestation to protect the environment and recycle rain.
