Domestic violence in developing countries
Domestic violence is a global problem. Many men, women but also children are involved in a hostile home situation. Often not visible for the outer world, the most awful things happen at home. Domestic violence damages the control of their own life and body. The motives for domestic violence can be very small and pointless.
Domestic violence does not get punished
In western countries, domestic violence is punishable. But in a lot of developing countries molestation and rape are not punishable. Besides that people do not see the incidents as molestation. Police, Justice Department and local communities have the same perspectives why domestic violence is totally ignored. Often it are women who get molested by their husbands or family. In former times, domestic violence occurred mainly in countries where men have the authority in a family but these days we see domestic violence globally.
Escaping is difficult
To escape domestic violence is often difficult. This has different reasons:
- Lack of social, economic or cultural rights
- Economical dependency
- Insufficient public facilities
- Lack of knowledge about their own human rights
- Lack of information about domestic violence
