Sustainable development
Sustainable development is, according to the ‘Brundtland Report’ of the United Nations: a process of developing that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs .
Sustainable agriculture
NABUUR has an important issue that is a fundamental ingredient of sustainable development: Sustainable Agriculture. In many third world countries, agriculture is the main income generator. That is why it is very important to develop this income source further. Often citizens of the villages do have problems with their agriculture. Together with the online volunteers they search for solutions. We do know a lot more techniques that they are not aware of yet. We also have much more contacts over the whole world that we can use to help the citizens and give them the change to practise a better agriculture.
Examples of sustainable agriculture
There are a lot of examples to give about sustainable agriculture. Here are some of them:
- The installation of water pumps on the agriculture fields
- Learn the agricultural workers how to irrigate the landscape
- Learn the citizens about bee-keeping
Case: Sustainable development in agriculture
In Kakamega (Kenya, Africa) are a lot of widows of whos partner died of AIDS. A lot of these women and their children are chased out of their homes when their husband‘s died and now settle in the outskirts of Kakamega. Because the fact that they don not have other options, they get into prostitution or theft. The volunteers of NABUUR are now trying to find solutions to increase the yield of the agriculture activities of these women so that it can be made possible to earn enough money to send their children to school. The volunteers of this project still need help, join them now!
