Help after the tsunami

Help has been promised to the affected areas by governments and social organizations. The American government has made 350 million dollar available. Besides that, the International Red Cross and individuals donated 401 million dollar. Also a lot of other countries collected money by organizing collection campaigns in the media.

Rebuilding after the tsunami

More than 230.000 death, families and local communities are torn apart, homes completely vanished and jobs were lost. At the moment the world surveys the consequences of the disaster. Schools have to be rebuild, homes have to be build, traumas have to be processed, orphans have to get a good shelter: the rebuilding is getting started.

The tsunami is no longer in the news but the rebuilding goes on. It was estimated that the rebuilding would take 3 years but know it is expected that it will take at least 5 years. The rebuilding costs a lot of time and money.

Obstacles during rebuilding

Not everywhere the rebuilding goes as hoped for. In Sri Lanka the blazed up violence impedes the rebuilding. About 15 till 40 thousand people have escaped this political stress. Instead of rebuilding there is now offered temporary help again. The people that tried to get their lives back on track now have to escape for the second time.
