My mother is the second wife of my father who had four wives. My family lives in Enchorro-Elerai in Olchorronyore in Kajiado North District where my parents lived from childhood. I have two brothers and three sisters. I grew up as a shepherd and was one until the age of fifteen. Even after I started school at Olchorronyore primary school in 1982, during the holidays I looked after my father’s cows and goats I attended Olchorronyore primary school from standard grades one to eight from 1982 -1990. I did my certificate of Kenya primary school education exams in 1994 and passed well. My good exam grade I got landed me a position in a Government school which I joined the following year for my O level. I attended Olooseos Secondary School and graduated four years later after sitting for my Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Exams in the year 1994. I did not pass very well because I was absent most of the time. I wanted to go college but I could not immediately join any college because of lack of school fees. Early in the year 2005, I started a small business buying and selling goats and sheep in the market of Kiserian. I succeeded very well with this business. Later I realized that my life was not complete without more education so I joined Kenya College of Communication Technology for an ICDL course (International Computer Driving License). I thought of trying my hand in aviation technology so I enrolled in Kenya School of Flying in 2002 for a flight operation course in Wilson Airport. Later, after my college studies, I decided to do something for my community after realizing that the members of my community started selling land to buy poverty. I helped to start Tepisia Education and Conservation Trust, which never survived due to lack of funding. I came across naburr.com back in 2006 and decided to register a village. This did not work because I did not have access to internet most of the time. Early in February 2009, as if by calling, I ignited my spirit for working with neighbors in Nabuur to help my community to have an alternative way of life and living, to stop selling land which was their home and the home of wildlife. Encroachment of wildlife habitats has disrupted our natural living with the earth. My Nabuur Village is calling for the Maasai People to open up to the world and to manage their own natural resources in a sustainable way. Ecotourism is a sure way of conserving both the environment and our culture and at the same time earning revenues. For example, bee-keeping can be a major revenue earner without disturbing the environment and without selling land for money. Selling land is a “quick fix” although that may not be realized at the time. To sell our land is against our cultural values and in the long run it calls in poverty.
