About Luhwahwa Youth Development Foundation (LUYODEFO)

Luhwahwa Youth Development Foundation (LUYODEFO), a non-profit, community based organization in Kisinga, East Bukonjo, Kasese district in the far western region of Uganda implements social developments.

With limited external funding, we lack resources to effectively deliver services to the targeted communities. We have have initiated activities in farm husbandry, savings and lending, environment, supporting orphans and needy children, reproductive health, education and literacy, and establishing an orphanage is underway.LUYODEFO wishes to sustain and expand its program activities as well as create lasting positive impacts on the lives of young people (youth and children) and women.We need your support to enable us better serve our target groups.

Luhwahwa Youth Development Foundation (LUYODEFO) is an entirely volunteer run non-profit, community based organization in Kisinga, East Bukonjo, Kasese district in the far western region of Uganda. Kasese district lie along the equator with coordinates 00011'N 30005'E. It is bordered by Bundibugyo district, Kaborale district, Kamwenge district, Bushenyi district, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The district population is put to approximately 533,000 people (2002 national census) and is concentrated on the stretch between the Rwenzori Mountains and the western rift valley basin. The population growth is about 6.4 % per annum, putting high pressure on natural resources. This compounded by poor farming techniques, cause mass degradation and diminishing land productivity. Kasese is famous for nature's beauty - Margherta, the highest peak in the “mountains of the moon” (snow capped Rwenzori Mountain), the national parks, the equator, the fresh water and salt lakes, and other wildlife features are exceptional for holiday makers. Kasese Municipality is the largest town, located approximately 559 kilometers by road, west of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. Kasese district has many ethnic groups, the main native languages are Lukonzo, and Lutoro-lunyoro, and the major occupation is subsistence farming (crop farming and animal keeping). Majority of the population are illiterate, poor and live in the rural areas.

LUYODEFO creates awareness and provides support services in the areas of food security, environment, literacy and education, community health, human welfare, and bridging the technology gap in underprivileged and marginalized communities.We are implementing projects like poultry, goats, apiary, tree nurseries, mobile libraries for school children, an orphanage, menstrual kits for teen girls, school supplies for needy children, etc
