Hi yet again,
I find the headings for organizing the comments/post confusing. The terminology is not clear. Wouldn't it be simpler to say "Newest posts first" "Oldest posts first"? I still don't understand what the "comments" order is. I can't seem to figure out how this is organized because even when I reply to a previous post, it doesn't come after the original post (or other ones that were made in response to that post. The order seems to be random. Can you please explain (I'm sure yet again!) how this works? I cannot figure it out at all and it is frustrating to have to switch it constantly to find the newest posts. Even after I reply to a post or post a new comment (or task discussion) the posting is not easy to find. The layout reverts to the "comments" order and I have to click on the "latest posts" button to see it.
I am just curious to why the terminology has changed so much on this new site? It seems that we have to learn a whole new set of terms to be able to work our way through everything.
Barb
So I just noticed that when you click on a new post from "My Nabuur" and there is only 1 page full of comments/postings, you are taken directly to the post you want, which is great! Easy to find and read. However, if there is more than one page of posts, you are taken to the first comment in the comments order and not directly to the post. Is this a glitch?
Barb
Hi Barb
You can set the default order in which posts are displayed. On My Nabuur, click on Edit and near the bottom there is an option "Default display of comments and discussion". I have set mine to Latest post first, and it now stays in that order unless I change it on a discussion screen.
I agree with you about the village search - I have had the same problem and mentioned it a while ago. It seems that only new villages (most of which are not active yet) have keywords, so they are the only ones that come up on searches. I also liked the old-style alphabetical list too - village name and a simple one-line description - easy for people to look through and find things that interested them. At the moment if I was new to Nabuur I wouldn't have a clue how to find a suitable village to join.
Romina, thanks for the explanation of how to find Fac/LR. Would make sense to show 'Facilitator' agains their names on the neighbour list too, especially if LR and fac come from the same country.
Mary
Hi Mary,
Thanks for that tip! It works now!
Barb
Hello :-)
Wuld it be possible to group new postings per village?. When I go to my Nabuur it s difficult to decide where to go specially when you are in several villages. I want to get the bigger picture when I open My NAbuur.
Please make the villages search more user friendly.
I also think making it default to have the latest post first would be better. If not, at least that when I click in anew message in My nabuur, I would prefer to be re-directed to that new message to to the oldes one in that discussion even if I do not chose the latest post as my default.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Raul
Hey everyone,
Some of you have reported that content has been lost in your Village wikis. This has been looked into by our techie team, with both bad and good news findings. Here's what's up.
Due to human error, only the first version of the wikis was imported into the 'shared documents' item. This is the reason why some of you are reporting the lost content; data hasn't been imported properly.
This is fixable but it will take some time. What will happen now is Kester and Frans will temporarily delete all imported 'shared document' data and submit new one with the latest version of the wikis. This will allow for you to see ALL your work, not just the first version.
Because this implies adding and deleting stuff on the production server, this is a tricky step which will take some testing first to make sure there aren't any real problems. An anticipated date for restoring ALL data is for the second half of September. Your patience with this is much appreciated. :)
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to let us know.
Thanks,
Romina
Hi Romina
Does that mean it will impossible to use, or add to, the wikis until that is done? If so, may be worth putting a warning somewhere obvious so that everyone knows not to do so.
Mary
Hi everyone,
Mary brought up an excellent question: Is it possible to continue editing the wikis until they are replaced with the latest version? I checked with Frans and the answer is that any editing done now will be lost when the current wikis are replaced with the latest versions.
Unfortunately a warning on the wiki document itself is not possible, so the solution is to make the wikis invisible until the replacement is complete.
Frans and Kester will temporarily remove the wikis from the Village. This will be done early next week. We suggest you copy to your own documents any relevant information you may need from the wikis as they'll be unavailable until mid-September when the replacement is complete.
Apologies for the inconvenience.
Romina
This update needs to rightfully start with another word of Thank You to everyone who has taken the time to send in more feedback over the past week. Your patience is much appreciated as technical bugs are being looked into, and changes are implemented. It’s a long process, especially the technical bits, but everyone is working diligently to get it smoothened out.
Done this week to create an easier and attractive environment for Facilitators and Neighbours
- The pictures in the Villages are displayed much better. There is still a small problem with .bmp images but that will be looked at in September.
- Misplaced pictures and wiki content has been located. However it can’t be uploaded right away. Read the update posted posted a few days ago: http://www.nabuur.com/en/group/nabuurcom-website-development/project/tas...
- As requested by many, the font has been made larger.
- A separate log in / join button is now in place.
- The text links that appear towards the top of a page that helps navigation (called a ‘breadcrumb’) is now made much smaller.
- The technical text in some parts has been simplified (not ready yet).,
- The task page is back (in the search) so Neighbours can find open tasks more easily.
And the biggest Hurrah of the week goes to the implementation of the SMS function!
Local representatives are now able to register their mobile phone number on the NABUUR site. Facilitators can send an SMS to the LR when they think an important post is published on the site. Local Representatives don't have to cycle to the internet cafe anymore to let the neighbors know what is happening in their village.... they just send a SMS to NABUUR, and it will be published in the village News. (Quick guides for Local Reps and Facilitators will be sent out shortly.)
Much more bug-fixing and improvements are being done throughout these days; a new update will be made available to you next week.
The techies, Frans and Kester, will be away at a Drupal Conference this coming week where they’ll pick up new techie experience under their belt which will help in solving some of the site’s most complicated problems…Enjoy the conference, guys! Bring back some tips and tricks!
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.
The NABUUR Team
Thanks so much to the techies for enlarging the font size! I can now see the posts properly so I should now be able to use the website again.

Lynley,
Glad you don't feel the need to squint any more!
Really, nothing makes a person feel older like small font on a website. ;)
As a facilitator, I am finding it incredibly difficult to locate the people actually volunteering for Nabuur. I have not found an easy way to recruit members for any of my villages because I simply can't see who's here anymore. Before it was easily searchable-now unless I know someone from before, I have no idea how I would find someone qualified to help with a specific task or who might have skills that I need to help with something in a project. Is there a way to do this that I'm missing? Members are easily viewable if they've joined your village within the villages themselves, but if I am looking for someone with a particular skill set-how would I find them if I'd never met them before?
Hi Jennifer,
There are two ways in which you might find the right volunteer:
I hope this is what you were looking for?
Regards,
Rolf.
Dear Rolf,
This is exactly where a user guide could be soooo helpful - us facilitators (and neighbours) could be saved a lot of frustrations and headaches if the user guides could have been given out at the start of the changes to the website...
Best, Angelika
